Nolan: An Update

It has been SO long since I have done an update on Nolan, and it makes me so sad because I am sure I am missing lots of details that I wrote down somewhere or thought, "I need to put this on the blog!"  But, truth is, days go by so fast and the Holidays kept us super busy that I just haven't had the chance to post about little man.

Well, an easy update is that he is GREAT and has been healthy!  He has just amazed us and we are so thankful that he has pretty much gone through the last 3/4 of last year with only the occasional cough and ONE ear infection.  I have to admit I was a bit nervous when he was diagnosed with an ear infection over Thanksgiving that we would be facing another one soon, but thankfully that has not happened.

I guess the best thing to do is to do a quick recap/picture from each month that I have missed; which means we start back in July of 2016!  I can't remember if I posted about this or not, but it's too cute not to share.  I officially bought Nolan his own big boy undies, and he loved them.

Of course we had to start with Super Herio's and Spiderman :)

That tan like cracks me up!

I know I have blogged about his potty training experience, and this was mostly the beginning.  He had lots of accidents, of course, but this really catapulted him into the actual "training" stage.

He is also obsessed with his cape, and pretty much wears it everywhere :)  Our daily walks during September clearly show his commitment :)

Plotting his strategy...

He is still pretty much not afraid of anything.  He has his shy moments every now and then, but I think that is mostly for attention and not from being afraid.  He continues to jump off of anything, flip anywhere, and scare me and his teachers to death :)  His fast pace usually results in lots of bumps and bruises, but he will literally cry for maybe a minute or two (depending on how bad it is) and then can easily be distracted by something else.

I still get nervous when he climbs up the ladder, but he just zooms right up.

The BIGGEST grasshopper I have ever seen.  As you can tell, I was IN the house, and he was outside - ha.

That pretty much sums up the months that I missed.  October (his birthday) through Christmas will be heavily documented, so I hope I didn't miss too much! :)  It amazes me how fast he changes, and what he learns.  He is a constant blessing and the love of my life.  Each day brings lots of feelings of thankfulness, patience, and the occasional exhaustion, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Just A Typical Walk

Nothing says typical afternoon walk like a Superhero cape :)

The boys accompanied me on part of my walk last night, and we were a sight!  The little fun things that kids do that are just all in their own little world and completely oblivious to anything but what they find amazing is just so cool.

I honestly had never even thought about little boys wanting to dress up just as little girls do, but I was totally missing out!  There are capes (as seen above), swords, shields, masks, and all kinds of cool stuff for them.  Nolan is clearly a fan! :)

Contemplating his next Superhero move, no doubt.

Ahh, to be a kid again.

Replacing Our Deck (a/ka/ Exciting Stuff)

So call me crazy, but am I the only one that had NO idea wood was so expensive?!  I almost had a heart attack when we realized we needed to replace the floor on our back deck and saw the prices on treated lumber.  Good grief!  If I had a big enough tree in my back yard I would have cut it down instead!

Not so long story, we had to replace our back deck and figured the best time to do it would be over a long 3-day weekend, like Labor Day.  We spent a few hours on Sunday ripping out all the old flooring (hello, I was a beast with the crowbar and pliers!), then replaced the floor on Monday with the help of Tom and Henry.

Thank goodness for them - they knocked it out in a few hours, and it looks great!

Play Date!

My good friend from work and I decided to let our husband's have a "Man Date" and go play golf Saturday.  We knew we would be perfectly fine playing with the kids and shopping, so we told them to go have a blast :)

Little did we know that they would be out until 9:00 playing in the pitch dark, but we all had our respective good times so it was worth it!

We took the little ones to the park and got in a good bit of play time before it rained on us.  Nolan will sure give you your workout keeping up with him!  And, he will give you a heart attack with his daring stunts.

On a more subdued moment feeding the "chickens."

With his play date, Miss J :)  Aren't they the cutest couple?!

...and this is the smile I get when I tell him to smile - ha!

Much better.  My sweet boy.  He somehow always ends up with all of these scratches on his face from daycare, but his teachers assure me that he holds his own :)  No doubt, my little man.  They don't want to mess with this mama bear!

On some more "adult entertainment" for us mamas, we stopped by this awesome store in downtown Knightdale.  It's the exact kind of store I would open if I was going to open a store!  Except, mine would have to serve food, too.  There was a huge old train caboose right across the street from the store and Nolan loved it.  Too bad we couldn't get in it, but he had a great time climbing all over it!

All in all, it was such a fun date for all of us - men, women and kids!
