This Kid...

I can't even...

School Picture Day!

For some reason, they do TWO school picture days a year, but I still can't help but order them every time :)  I haven't gotten the official pictures back yet, but of course I snapped a few on the way to school that morning anyway...

Anthony isn't allowing me to pick out his outfits anymore, because apparently, he needs "cooler" clothes...I can't help it that he's so adorable!  Besides, this is my only chance to dress him how I want before he gets his own opinion and wears the same pants for a week straight :)

Fists of Fury!

Kids crack me up.  You never know what they are going to do next, OR where they came up with something they do.

Exhibit A: one night during his dinner, Nolan squeezed his hands super tight, held his breath and stayed that way until his faced turned red.  No, he wasn't doing it for a tantrum, he just busted it out!  At first, I was like "what the heck are you doing?!" and then it turned funny!

We started to tell him to do "Fists of Fury" and each time, he would do this.

Of course, the yogurt mustache just accentuated the whole thing :)  Anthony has a video of this, and it's pretty much my favorite video of all time because of the ending.  I wish videos weren't such a pain to upload, but basically, Nolan does his "Fists of Fury" and then grabs my face with both hands and plants a huge, slobbery, yogurt kiss right on me. I DIED.  So funny, and SO adorable.  I have probably looked at that video a hundred times so far :)

23 Months!

It has been a very good month for us, and I am so thankful!  Little Man is just a doll and has been relatively healthy to boot!

One of my favorite things about being a parent is just the natural "awe" that comes from loving your kid so much.  You think that something they do is "the cutest thing you will ever see in your life," and then they go and do something even cuter/funnier/etc.  It just never ends with being amazed at your child, and it's such a great thing.

Aside from some "counseling" on gnawing on his classmates at school, he has done great this month.  I will elaborate :)

Behavior:  We are for sure entering the "terrible two's," but nothing we can't handle.  We have been working to identify what type of punishment/discipline works for him, and I think we have it figured out.  Spankings, etc. do not work with this little guy.  We try not to resort to that sort of thing often, and have tried other things instead.  We discovered that "time-outs" and sitting him away from what he wants to be doing seem to work best.  After a few trial and errors at daycare, we finally resolved his biting issue after I told the teachers it was okay for him to be separated from his class if he wasn't behaving.  No parent likes to discipline their kids, but I really believe that the right kind of discipline is so important for kids - especially these days when kids are nuts :)  We want him to grow up to respect authority AND others, and I think it takes starting early with manners and rules.

He clearly did not want to wear his sunglasses...haha!

Growth/size:  Still our little peanut.  He has grown out of some of his shoes, but no clothes yet.  Still rockin' the 12 month clothes!  This may actually be good if he can wear some of his winter clothes from last year :)  He is getting taller, I think.

Eating:  He goes through stages, but overall still eats pretty well.  His favorites are still the same: eggs, cheese and yogurt.  He is starting to like some other foods as well, but I try to limit those as best I can - mainly chips and sweets :)  Hey, I can't let him grow up with eating habits like mine!

Other news:  He is getting a mouth full of teeth now, and talks non-stop!  I literally feel like the mom (Lois) from Family Guy sometimes.  He has started the whole "Mom...mom...mom... MOM!" thing, and when I respond he goes, "Hey." Cracks me up.  Sometimes he asks the SAME question over and over and over again.  Usually, his questions are "Where did Daddy go" and "Where did doggy (Vegas) go?"  Sometimes I can't tell the difference between "Daddy" and "doggy," so some days Vegas may be going to work :)  The other night we heard the train go by when I was hooking him into his carseat at daycare, but we couldn't see it.  He literally asked "Where choo choo go?!" the entire.ride.home :)  Still, never gets old and I love coming up with new ways to explain things to him.

Fun stuff!  We took Nolan to my friend's little girl's birthday party at the end of August, and had so much fun.  Nolan thoroughly LOVED the bouncy house they rented, and I knew that would be the theme of his birthday party this year!  Of course, he had no fear (which was slightly terrifying), but had a great time and didn't get hurt!  Daddy naturally climbed in and had all of the kids all over him.

He and Anthony went to the park the other weekend, and Nolan decided to slide backwards after him.  He also took him to get some famous homemade ice cream, but didn't tell me!  I was so jealous, but that had a great time.  There was a concert going on in the distance, so Nolan had lots of fun dancing while he ate his ice cream.  They always have so much fun, and I love the pictures Anthony is able to capture of the little nugget on his phone.

This is "brudda face"...the face he makes to mimick Jacob, and usually what he does when he is pretending to be mad :)  I can't even keep a straight face when I see it!

Only ONE more month until we have a TWO year old on our hands...time is flying by too fast, and I just can't believe it!  Love you, little man! xoxo

Labor Day 2015 + First Beach Trip!

My parents invited us to their beach house for Labor Day, and since we hadn't been since we moved here, we took them up on it!  We decided to drive down Friday night after work, so that we could have as much time down there as possible.  This was my only type of "vacation" this year, so I wanted to soak it up!

The drive down was okay, and didn't take nearly as long as I thought.  We stopped for dinner along the way, and then Nolan ended up sleeping the last hour or so.  It rained the whole way down (which is very precarious on the roads out to the beaches), so I pretty much white-knuckled the drive.  Turns out, Nolan was ready to party when we got there, and didn't end up going to sleep until about 3 a.m. (thanks Daddy for being a night owl!)

We woke up Saturday and just took our time hanging out and getting ready.  Nolan walked to the water with G in his pajamas, and got his first little taste of salty water!  He didn't know what to do with the little waves, but seemed okay as long as we held his hands.  We played with some of his sand toys, but there were about 50 million mosquitos down there, so we only played for a little while.  Then, it was back up for a snack and nap time before our real beach trip!

(Memo tuckered him out in the rocking chair...)

The weather seemed pretty dicey all weekend, so we tried to time our trip to the beach around the rain.  Luckily, the afternoon turned out sunny and beautiful.  We drove to Cedar Island to take Nolan to the beach, and the drive was unbelievable.  Just pure marshland and open space with barely any people on the road.  We drove with the windows down and just loved it.  Once we got to the beach, we hauled all of our "supplies" out to the sand and hunkered down.

There was a very strong breeze going, which actually ended up keeping us really comfortable temperature-wise, and kept the mosquitos away!  There were a few people right down from us that drove their trucks right out onto the sand, and had dogs and all kinds of fun stuff going.

Nolan had a great time just walking around and testing out the water.  He took a face plant a couple of times in the tide pool, but once we scooped him right up he was fine and ready to go again!  We stayed out there for a couple of hours and then decided to head home when the tide began to come in and the strip of land we were standing on started to diminish :)

The rest of our weekend was filled with lots of eating and trying to keep the mosquitos away (for real, I am not even kidding...I swear I have never seen SO many mosquitos in my life).  We had breakfast at the little local grill (where mom ended up waiting tables because it was so crowded and there was only one cook - cracked me up).  We drove to "town" to get some ice cream and get out of the house for a little while too.

Nolan was happy about that, as you can tell ;)  Overall, it was a sweet weekend with my family, and Nolan slept okay for the 3 nights there.  Hey, you can't win 'em all, right?!

Hopefully next time we visit we can take the ferry over to the outer banks and see some wild mustangs in Beaufort.  I can't wait!
