Labor Day 2015 + First Beach Trip!

My parents invited us to their beach house for Labor Day, and since we hadn't been since we moved here, we took them up on it!  We decided to drive down Friday night after work, so that we could have as much time down there as possible.  This was my only type of "vacation" this year, so I wanted to soak it up!

The drive down was okay, and didn't take nearly as long as I thought.  We stopped for dinner along the way, and then Nolan ended up sleeping the last hour or so.  It rained the whole way down (which is very precarious on the roads out to the beaches), so I pretty much white-knuckled the drive.  Turns out, Nolan was ready to party when we got there, and didn't end up going to sleep until about 3 a.m. (thanks Daddy for being a night owl!)

We woke up Saturday and just took our time hanging out and getting ready.  Nolan walked to the water with G in his pajamas, and got his first little taste of salty water!  He didn't know what to do with the little waves, but seemed okay as long as we held his hands.  We played with some of his sand toys, but there were about 50 million mosquitos down there, so we only played for a little while.  Then, it was back up for a snack and nap time before our real beach trip!

(Memo tuckered him out in the rocking chair...)

The weather seemed pretty dicey all weekend, so we tried to time our trip to the beach around the rain.  Luckily, the afternoon turned out sunny and beautiful.  We drove to Cedar Island to take Nolan to the beach, and the drive was unbelievable.  Just pure marshland and open space with barely any people on the road.  We drove with the windows down and just loved it.  Once we got to the beach, we hauled all of our "supplies" out to the sand and hunkered down.

There was a very strong breeze going, which actually ended up keeping us really comfortable temperature-wise, and kept the mosquitos away!  There were a few people right down from us that drove their trucks right out onto the sand, and had dogs and all kinds of fun stuff going.

Nolan had a great time just walking around and testing out the water.  He took a face plant a couple of times in the tide pool, but once we scooped him right up he was fine and ready to go again!  We stayed out there for a couple of hours and then decided to head home when the tide began to come in and the strip of land we were standing on started to diminish :)

The rest of our weekend was filled with lots of eating and trying to keep the mosquitos away (for real, I am not even kidding...I swear I have never seen SO many mosquitos in my life).  We had breakfast at the little local grill (where mom ended up waiting tables because it was so crowded and there was only one cook - cracked me up).  We drove to "town" to get some ice cream and get out of the house for a little while too.

Nolan was happy about that, as you can tell ;)  Overall, it was a sweet weekend with my family, and Nolan slept okay for the 3 nights there.  Hey, you can't win 'em all, right?!

Hopefully next time we visit we can take the ferry over to the outer banks and see some wild mustangs in Beaufort.  I can't wait!
