Not really, but it might as well have been! Anthony and I signed up to “coach” Nolan’s
soccer team this season, and I say scam since neither of us have ever played
soccer. Like, literally –
never.played.a.game. cheered for it in
high school, but never payed attention – whoops.
Anyway, we figured our little team wouldn’t know the
difference and it would be fun to do something together as a family and keep
with our goal of being really involved in Nolan’s extra activities. We had several rounds of e-mail
registrations, and then, we had a team!
It turned out that we were able to coach Nolan, Walker, and Kaleb. SO great the kids were able to be on the same
team again.
We got Nolan outfitted with all of his new gear, and he was
so excited. It took him a couple of
practices to be okay if he lost the ball or didn’t make a goal, but towards the
end he did really well and really liked it.
He got better at managing the ball and control, and started to understand
some of the strategy. They didn’t play
actual games, but each “practice” was a mixture of different drills and games
that they gave us. We also had a third
coach, who was great and was such an awesome guide since he had coached his
daughter last season. Thank goodness for
him!
It was so sweet to give out the medals; the kids were so
excited and it was fun to be a coach and be a part of it. I was just proud of myself that I remembered
each kid’s name! Of course, Anthony was
a natural and they asked him to come back and coach another older team. He is in the wrong business, for sure!
