Race for the Cure

I really love my new Firm; they do so many great activities and charity work.  This year (like in several year's past), they assembled a team to walk in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Raleigh.  If you signed up, the firm would reimburse you for your registration fee (plus one additional person) and also gave us awesome team t-shirts to boot!

No one was happy for me taking a picture this early in the morning...ha!

So, I registered myself, Mom and Lexie to take part in the race - I was super excited because I have heard about this race/5k for so many years, but had never participated before.  I fully planned to walk the whole way, but the majority of people (aside from some very avid runners in our group) walked and talked the whole way.  It was great for Mom and Lexie to meet lots of people that I worked with.

Our firm in whole had a team of about 40 people - pretty impressive in my book!  Three or four of our runners placed in the Top 10 in their age groups...there were over 10,000 people there, so that's saying a lot!

The neighborhoods along the route really get into the whole event, and lots of them had sprinklers and music going to encourage everyone along the way.  It was hot, but luckily we finished before the sun really melted everyone.

This house had an ENTIRE tree covered in bras...funny, and kinda gross :)

The finish line!

Since we were chatting the whole way with my co-workers, we averaged about a 15-minute mile - haha :)  So, we crossed the finish line in around 48 minutes.  Amazingly, there were STILL people just crossing the START line when we finished - that's how many people were there!

Overall, it was hot, but I am so glad we did it, and was super proud to introduce folks at my work to Mom and Lexie.  A good day and a good cause = Lots of Fun!
