Nolan Turns Three! (Part 2)

It turned out that Nolan's daycare ended up being closed on his birthday day and the day after, so we had an eventful start to the week leading up to his party!  It actually worked out quite nicely because the day of his birthday that we were home allowed me to get some things checked off of my to-do list, which made the week leading up to the party a bit less stressful.

Thankfully, the weather ended up be absolutely glorious for his party, so that was a blessing!  Gotta love October birthdays!  Minus the Hurricane Season part :/

I found fabric way back over the summer, and I just knew it had to be for Nolan's party this year :)  This might be the last party I get to plan, so I wanted to make it fun!  Insert lumberjack-themed beaver fabric...ha!  I thought it was so cute and funny too, so a Lumberjack theme it was!

I figured I could make most of the decorating pretty inexpensively, and found some really cute downloadable sets on the internet for the invitations and the rest!  I just doctored up what I bought to make it more fun.  I will say, however, that I will never bring real wood into the house again - something about a scratching sound coming from wood in the dining room late at night almost made me chuck the whole plan (#eek #itwasabeatlewehope).  Ick.  Thankfully I think we found the "infested" wood and got.it.out.of.there!

I used plaid (of course) plus some greenery and the cute signs for most of the décor.

The kitchen table held the chili bar, potatoes and corn muffins.  Oh, and inflatable axes, because you know (#safetyfirst)

We also had apple cider around the campfire :)

We didn't end up having as many people as we had originally planned, and I honestly had to get myself out of the funk and move on to just make sure Nolan had a great time :(  Our cousins from Columbia couldn't make it because the routes up 95 and around were blocked due to the storm, and Papa couldn't make it because he had to work and then had car trouble, but that's life sometimes!  It really taught me a lot (in the middle of a kids party, no less), that Nolan's happiness is about how we react and how we project things onto him, so he had no idea that any of this was going on and was happy as a clam.  Goals met!

But back to the fun stuff...

The signs just cracked me up...I suppose I have a "facial hair" obsession :)

I made this little sign to make sure we celebrated his playset that Ollie and Gie and us got for Nolan's birthday.  He had already been playing on it for several weeks, but we didn't want it to get lost in the shuffle of new things, so I thought it would be fun for everyone at the party to sign the underside of his swingset so we would always remember the birthday on which got it.

We all had a good joke about having to sign "under" it and not being able to get back out, but we all made it and I hope Nolan will look at these names for years to come and realize he had so many people that loved him here that day (and always!)

Of course he had to sign it too :)
