I remember telling my friend in the days after he arrived, that everything they tell you about being a parent is TRUE, and the parts that are hard don't matter, and the parts that are great are GREAT. I am even surprised at the amount of love and joy I have for this little guy - babies were never really appealing to me, and to have my own has just changed my life.
Anthony and I were so excited for his birthday, and to just have a day to celebrate HIM. We decided to wait and do his "official" birthday party until the weekend after his birthday, since we didn't want the commotion of planning a big party to overshadow him and his birthday!
We got up a bit early that morning, since we wanted him to open a little something from us, and then I had to run to Dunkin' Donuts to finish the rest of his treats for his teachers. He got his classmates water color paints for the bathtub, and donuts for his teachers (the pictures aren't loading correctly, but they were cute).
We got him a small goodie basket of a few things, and of course, some balloons. In typical kid/present fashion, the balloons were a hit!
I made sure to order a onesie to commemorate the day, and include his birthday theme of a "mustache." It was so cute - I wish he could wear it other days too, but that may be a little weird :)
You mean I am 1 already?!
We had a nice dinner at home, and G and Ollie joined us. It was perfect timing, since we were able to celebrate G's birthday (the 7th) also. We took a beautiful stroll around the neighborhood, and even allowed Nolan to have a little sweet treat! He had to blow out a candle on his birthday!
It wasn't a cake, but it didn't matter, because he didn't eat it anyway :) He mushed it around a bit, but was not interested in eating it - even if we put it in his mouth! It was all good - that was a mini apple pie, and Mommy got the eat the rest ;)
The day ended without me shedding too many tears as I initially thought may happen. There really isn't much time to think and slow down nowadays, so the full grasp that he is a YEAR old hasn't really hit me yet. I do know one thing: it's been the BEST year of my life, and I look forward to every future day with this precious, special, beautiful, amazing, little man!
