One Year Doctor's Appointment

We were hit with another round of the "ick" after Nolan's big birthday weekend, but at least it has been a while since he has been sick, so I will take it!

Nolan wasn't feeling great over his birthday weekend, but never ran a fever so that was good.  I took him to daycare on Monday and I stayed home since I wasn't feeling good either.  I knew I was going to get him early to take him to his doctor's appointment and I knew he would have much more fun at home than with me that day.

I am sure it was a mixture of a lot of things - timing, being hungry, being sick, etc., but this doctor's appointment was the worst!  We had to wait forever, and I had forgotten to fill out the forms for his appointment so I had to do it in the waiting room.  I tried to answer a couple of questions in between chasing Nolan around the waiting room (note to self: never go alone!)

We waited forever, and there were tons of kids in there that day - I think the weather change is really messing everyone up.  We were finally brought back, and at this point, Nolan was getting tired and hungry.  And being the great mom that I am, I forgot his diaper bag at home - so no snacks, toys, diapers, etc.  I did remember to snag a clean diaper and wipes from his daycare, but that was it!  I blame it on having 12 people in my house all weekend and exhaustion :)

Anyway, we went to weigh him, and I was shocked at the result - he hadn't gained an ounce!  So in three months, he gained NO weight!  This actually really worried me, and we went to measure his length (which I swear is NEVER accurate), and he hadn't grown in length either!  His head circumference was the same too.  I can't remember the exact percentiles, but they are low.

I had a million questions I needed to ask, and I was bummed when they offered to let me see the nurse practitioner instead of the doctor to avoid an even longer wait.  I agreed, and regretted my decision when the nurse we had a few months ago walked in.  I am sure she is very knowledgeable, but she doesn't have much of a personality and I needed some more reassurances on what I was doing other than what I got from her.

We discussed Nolan's eating habits, nursing, and his development.  Developmentally he is fine, and so we only needed to focus on his weight gain.  I realized that while I had been feeding him super healthy foods, they didn't exactly contain any fats or a lot of protein, so I had a new feeding plan to start on.

We agreed to have him come back in a month for another weight check, and my mission was to stuff him with lots of good foods and fat and calories :)

While he had a little bit of fluid in one ear, he didn't have a temperature so we decided to go ahead with his shots.  I knew these shots were going to be pretty rough (he had 4 shots in total, and at least one was a combination shot).  Two nurses came in, and they both stuck him twice on each leg at the same time.  Lots of crying ensued for about two minutes and then he was fine.  We had a pretty rough night that night, but I totally expected that - poor little guy!

So you're gonna stick me HOW many times?!
